REGULATIONS 2017

Art. 1 – AIM OF COMPETITION
The Musical Association “Pedara per Gianluca Campochiaro”, based in the town of PEDARA (near Catania) holds and organizes, with the contribution of Sicilian Region (Department of Tourism, Sport and Performing Arts) and of Town of Pedara (Department of Culture), the 26th International Competition “Gianluca Campochiaro” for young musicians (soloists and chamber groups up to 25 players), with the aim of promoting musical culture among the young, of characterizing and favouring the artistic affirmation of young emerging talents and of promoting culturally and touristically the territory that hosts the Competition. The participation at the competition is open to musicians of all nationalities. Furthermore, the International Competition “Gianluca Campochiaro” is committed to help propagate, to develop and to increment an always greater interest in musical culture, until this may carry on its formative role in civilized society.

Art. 2 – COMPETITION VENUE
The Competition will be held in the town of PEDARA (near Catania), in the places decided by the organizers, on 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th December 2017, and will conclude with the Gala Evening (Concert Final), organized at Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania on Tuesday, 19th December 2017, during which the winner of the 26th Prize “Gianluca Campochiaro” will be chosen. On this occasion the Prize awards ceremony will be held for all winners of absolute 1st prize in every category and for winners of special prizes, offered by the competition sponsors.

Art. 3 – SECTIONS
The Competition will be divided into the following sections:
Sect. 1 – PIANOFORTE (soloists)
Sect. 2 – VIOLIN (soloists)
Sect. 3 – VIOLA (soloists)
Sect. 4 – OPERA SINGING (soloists)
Sect. 5 – PIANOFORTE (four hands)
Sect. 6 – CHAMBER MUSIC (with or without piano)

Art. 4 – CATEGORIES
Sections 1 and 2 (piano and violin soloists) are subdivided into the following categories:
Cat. A: up to age 10, at the time of the competition
Cat. B: up to age 12, at the time of the competition
Cat. C: up to age 15, at the time of the competition
Cat. D: up to age 19, at the time of the competition
Cat. E: up to age 24, at the time of the competition
Cat. F: up to age 30, at the time of the competition

Section 3 (viola soloists) is subdivided into the following categories:
Cat. A: up to age 19, at the time of the competition
Cat. B: up to age 24, at the time of the competition
Cat. C: up to age 30, at the time of the competition

Section 4 (opera singing soloists) is subdivided into the following categories:
Cat. A: up to age 24, at the time of the competition
Cat. B: up to age 35, at the time of the competition

Section 5 (pianoforte 4 hands) is subdivided into the following categories:
Cat. A: up to age 12 – referring to the average age of the duo
Cat. B: up to age 18 – referring to the average age of the duo
Cat. C: without age limit

Section 6 (chamber music with or without piano), reserved for ensembles from duo to sextet and chamber groups up to ten players, is subdivided into the following categories:
Cat. A: ensembles from duo to sextet, up to age 16 (referring to the average age of the players)
Cat. B: ensembles from duo to sextet, up to age 24 (referring to the average age of the players)
Cat. C: any type of ensemble from two to ten players WITHOUT AGE LIMIT

Art. 5 – PIANO ACCOMPANIST
The contestants of Section 2 (violin), of Section 3 (viola) and Section 4 (opera singers) will be able to avail themselves of the collaboration of a piano accompanist, whose services will not influence the valuation of the contestant. The organization, on the request of the candidate, will be able to make available (with a fee, see list of quotes) a piano accompanist. It will be the responsibility of the candidate to send the Artistic Direction of the Competition, by the closing date of the on-line presentation of the application to participate in the competition, copies (in PDF form) of the musical works chosen.
Fees for the piano accompanist, if requested, provided by the competition organizer, including a rehearsal with the pianist the day before the competition, and the accompaniment on the day of the competition:
Sections 2 and 3 – Categories A and B: € 40 (Euros)
Sections 2 and 3 – Categories C and D: € 50 (Euros)
Sections 2 and 3 – Categories E and F: € 60 (Euros)
Section 4 – Categories A, B and C: € 60 (Euros)

Art. 6 – METHOD OF REGISTRATION
The contestants of sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 shall complete and send (exclusively on-line), by, and no later than, 30th November 2017, the registration form, of the Competition, duly filled out in every detail, published on the official website of the Competition: www.concorsointernazionalegianlucacampochiaro.it, to which will be attached: copy of birth certificate, the program of the music to be performed in the competition (specifying the composer, edition and duration) and the details & code of the bank transfer (CRO) made, relative to the registration fee set by the organizers (see Art. 7 with the detailed description of registration fees, differentiated by section and category).

General rule regarding the competition registration
The contestants that have a family connection (or other) with a member of the  panel, of their section category, cannot take part in the competition.

Art. 7 – REGISTRATION FEES
Sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 (Pianoforte, Violin, Viola and Opera singing)
Categories: A – B – C – D – E and F: € 60 (Euros) for each contestant
Sections 5 and 6 (Pianoforte 4 hands and Chamber Music)
Categories: A – B and C: € 40 (Euros) for each contestant

Art. 8 – DOCUMENT OF PERSONAL IDENTITY
The contestants may participate in only one category (in the sections 1-2-3 and 4), even above that of their normal age group.
However, as regards chamber music (section 6), the contestants may participate in more than one category and with different formations. The absolute winners of a category in last year’s Competition (or earlier), will be able to apply only to a higher category to the one in which they were winners. It is obligatory to present oneself at the competition with a document of personal identity. The personal document will have to be shown to the President of the Jury to obtain consent to compete in the competition.

Art. 9 – MUSICAL PROGRAMS and DURATIONS
Section 1 – Piano (soloists):
The competition consists of one trial, with a performance of at least two works from those presented for the competition,
contrasting in character and style and with a total duration of (see indication):
CAT. A – own choice program, max. 10 minutes
CAT. B – own choice program, max. 15 minutes
CAT. C – own choice program, max. 15 minutes
CAT. D – own choice program, max. 20 minutes
CAT. E – own choice program, max. 30 minutes
CAT. F – own choice program, max. 35 minutes
From the winners of “Absolute First Prize” (of each category), the Jury will choose the representative of the section “Pianoforte” who will compete, in the occasion of the “Finalissima” (concert final) programmed at “Teatro Massimo Bellini” Opera theatre, in Catania, for “Gianluca Campochiaro” Prize – 2017.

Section 2 – Violin (soloists):
The competition consists of one trial, with a performance of at least two works from those presented for the competition, contrasting in character and style and with a total duration of (see indication):
CAT. A – own choice program, max. 10 minutes
CAT. B – own choice program, max. 15 minutes
CAT. C – own choice program, max. 15 minutes
CAT. D – own choice program, max. 20 minutes
CAT. E – own choice program, max. 30 minutes

From the winners of “Absolute First Prize” (of each category), the Jury will choose the representative of the section “Violin” who will compete, in the occasion of the “Finalissima” (concert final) programmed, at “Teatro Massimo Bellini” Opera theatre, in Catania, for “Gianluca Campochiaro” Prize – 2017.

Section 3 – Viola (soloists):
The competition consists of one trial, with a performance of at least two works from those presented for the competition, contrasting in character and style and with a total duration of (see indication):
CAT. A – own choice program, max. 20 minutes
CAT. B – own choice program, max. 30 minutes
CAT. C – own choice program, max. 35 minutes
From the winners of “Absolute First Prize” (of each category), the Jury will choose the representative of the section “Viola” who will compete, in the occasion of the “Finalissima” (concert final) programmed at “Teatro Massimo Bellini” Opera theatre, in Catania, for “Gianluca Campochiaro” Prize – 2017.

Section 4 – Opera singing (soloists):
The competition consists of one trial, with a performance of one or more arias, on the jury’s choice, from those presented by the contestant. Each candidate shall present a program of at least 4 arias from the operatic repertoire (possibly with Recitativo and Cabaletta), to perform in the original key and language (at least one of which in the Italian language), contrasting in character and style and with a total duration of (see indication):

From the winners of “Absolute First Prize” (in each category), the Jury will choose the representative of the section “Opera singing” who will compete, in the occasion of the “Finalissima” (concert final) programmed at “Teatro Massimo Bellini” Opera
theatre, in Catania, for “Gianluca Campochiaro” Prize – 2017.

Section 5 – Piano 4 hands:
The competition consists of one trial, with a performance of at least two works from those presented for the competition, contrasting in character and style and with a total duration of (see indication):
CAT. A – own choice program, max. 15 minutes
CAT. B – own choice program, max. 20 minutes
CAT. C – own choice program, max. 30 minutes
From the winners of “Absolute First Prize” (of each category), the Jury will choose the representative of the section “Pianoforte 4 hands” who will compete, in the occasion of the “Finalissima” (concert final) programmed at “Teatro Massimo Bellini” Opera theatre, in Catania, for “Gianluca Campochiaro” Prize – 2017.

Section 6 – Chamber Music
(from Duo to Dectet, with or without pianoforte)
The competition consists of one trial, with a performance of at least two works from those presented for the competition, contrasting in character and style and with a total duration of (see indication):
CAT. A – own choice program, max. 15 minutes.
CAT. B – own choice program, max. 20 minutes.
CAT. C: own choice program, max. 30 minutes.
From the winners of “Absolute First Prize” (of each category), the Jury will choose the representative of the section “Chamber music” who will compete, in the occasion of the “Finalissima” (concert final) programmed at “Teatro Massimo Bellini” Opera theatre, in Catania, for the Prize “Gianluca Campochiaro” – 2017.

General Rule relative to the duration of each musical program
The maximum set duration does not oblige the contestant to necessarily reach it. Also, the Jury has the faculty to interrupt the performance, if the contestant should exceed the maximum set duration, or for another motive. Furthermore, at the discretion of the Jury board, the maximum set duration for a category may be exceeded in the case of one movement programs.

Art. 10 – COMPETITION TIMETABLES
The timetables of the trials will be made known starting from 5th December 2017. It is possible to request further information relative to the competition regulations, contacting the respective Artistic Directors by means of the appropriate dialogue

Hence, no other subject is authorized to give and receive information on this account.

Art. 11 – FORMATION OF THE JURY
The Jury members of the 6 sections will be composed, in accordance with the Coordinator of Artistic Directors, Maestro Igor Coretti Kuret and the President of “Pedara per Gianluca Campochiaro” association, of eminent international musicians (accomplished soloists, professors of Conservatoires and music schools, orchestral conductors etc.) and of Artistic Directors of sections of the international competition “Gianluca Campochiaro” (as follows): Ms Anna Chierichetti (Italy) – Artistic Director of section 4, Ms Carmelita Cocuccio (Italy) – Artistic Director of section 6 and Mr Vito Imperato (Italy) – Artistic Director of sections 2 and 3.

General Rule relative to the decisions of the Jury
The decisions of the Jury boards will be definitive and without appeal and the Juries will have the faculty, on their own unquestionable judgement, to interrupt or curtail the performance of the works presented, to award no prize, if the performance does not reach an adequate artistic level. Furthermore, the members of the Jury boards will abstain from expressing their judgement of merit, in the event of the participation of a present or former (up to 2 years ago) pupil of theirs, either private or college.

Art. 12 – JUDGING THE CONTESTANTS and AWARDING THE PRIZES
The judging of the contestants is expressed in hundredths (from 1 to 100/100) and the prizes will be awarded according to the following table:
Absolute 1st prize will go to those who attain a mark from 98 to 100/100
1st prize will go to those who attain a mark from 95 to 97/100
2nd prize will go to those who attain a mark from 90 to 94/100
3rd prize will go to those who attain a mark from 85 to 89/100
Those who attain a mark from 80 to 84/100 will be nominated with merit.

General Rule relative to the awards of the prizes
In the event that more than one of the same category should win a first prize, the bursary will be awarded to the contestant who will have received the highest mark, and, in the case of absolute level score, the bursary sum will be divided into equal
parts. Also the same holds, according to the mark obtained, in the event of two or more contestants winning Absolute 1st Prize.

Art. 13 – ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE RESULTS FOR EACH CATEGORY
The results of each trial will be made known at the end of the auditions for each category, after which will follow the awarding of the I, II and III prizes with the diplomas of merit and the certificates of participation. The winners of the absolute first prizes of each category will receive their award on the occasion of the Gala Evening, which will take place on Tuesday 19th December 2017 (at 7pm), at the “Teatro Massimo Bellini” Opera theatre, in Catania.

Art. 14 – FINALISSIMA (CONCERT FINAL) – for the awarding of “Gianluca Campochiaro” Prize – 2017
On, Tuesday, 19th December 2017, there will take place the “Finalissima” (Concert Final), which will declare the winner of the “Gianluca Campochiaro” Prize – 2017. To contend for the prize the six “Representatives”, of sections 1-2-3-4-5 and 6, chosen, by the respective juries, from the winners of Absolute 1st prize in each category.
Program: One work of own choice, from those presented for the competition, with a maximum duration of 15 minutes.

Art. 15 – FORMATION OF THE JURY  – for the awarding of “Gianluca Campochiaro” Prize – 2017
The Jury, which will judge the chosen contestants, namely the representatives, of the sections 1-2-3-4-5 e 6, chosen from the winners of absolute 1st prize in each category, who will compete for the “Gianluca Campochiaro” Prize – 2017, will be formed by Artistic Directors and by Presidents of the Jury of sections 1-2-3-4-5 and 6, by the President of the Association “Pedara per Gianluca Campochiaro” and by Organizing Director and Coordinator of Artistic Directors – Maestro Igor Coretti Kuret.

4) Bursary of € 300 (Euros) to be awarded to the contestant of sect. 4 (opera singing) who, representing this section as winner of absolute 1st prize, will contest at the “Gianluca Campochiaro” Prize – 2017, on occasion of the “Finalissima” (Concert Final) which will be held at “Teatro Massimo Bellini” Opera theatre, in Catania, on Tuesday, 19th December 2017.
5) Bursary of € 300 (Euros) to be awarded to the contestants of sect. 5 (pianoforte 4 hands) who, representing this section as winner of absolute 1st prize, will contest at the “Gianluca Campochiaro” Prize – 2017, on occasion of the “Finalissima” (Concert Final) will be held at “Teatro Massimo Bellini” Opera theatre, in Catania, on Tuesday, 19th December 2017.
6) Bursary of € 300 (Euros) to be awarded to the contestants of sect. 6 (chamber music) who, representing this section as winner of absolute 1st prize, will contest at the “Gianluca Campochiaro” Prize – 2017, on occasion of the “Finalissima” (Concert Final) will be held at “Teatro Massimo Bellini” Opera theatre, in Catania, on Tuesday, 19th December 2017.

Art. 17 – THE PRIZE “GIANLUCA CAMPOCHIARO”
The Prize “Gianluca Campochiaro”- 2016 is offered by the Municipal Administration of Pedara, to honour the memory of the young musician prematurely passed away, and consists of a bursary of € 1250 (Euros) and will be awarded to the winner of the “Finalissima”(Concert Final) of the 26th edition of the “Gianluca Campochiaro” International Competition, organized, on occasion of the Gala Evening of the Competition, scheduled for Tuesday, 19th December 2017, at the “Teatro Massimo Bellini” Opera theatre, in Catania. The winning representatives, of the sections 1-2-3-4-5 and 6, chosen by the section Juries from the winners of absolute 1st prize in each category, will be able to compete for the Prize.

General rule relative to the awarding of the special prizes
The Artistic Direction, whenever necessary, has the faculty to modify the destination of the special prizes mentioned before.
Furthermore the Committee Organizers have the right to integrate a/o modify the nature, type and entity of the aforesaid special prizes, in the presence of particular eventualities.

Art. 18 – OBLIGATIONS OF THE CANDIDATES
The participation at the competition implies, on the part of the candidates, the unconditional acceptance of the present
regulations which the Association reserves itself the right to modify, whenever is necessary. For anything not covered in the
present regulation, it is referred to the discretional decision of the Artistic Direction, and of the Jury members, coordinated by
M° Igor Coretti Kuret, Organizing Director and Coordinator of the Artistic Direction of the International Competition “Gianluca
